🔌 How to Generate Your API Keys for 3rd Party Integrations

Sometimes you need to connect The REI Pulse CRM to outside tools or services (Like a 3rd party Lead Generation Source). Most of the time they will require an API key. This guide shows you how to create an API key to make that happen.

What Is an API Key?

An API key is like a password that lets other software connect to The REI Pulse CRM. Developers or third-party tools use this key to access your data and add extra features like additional AI services or custom integrations.

How to Create an API Key

Step 1: Click Settings in the left sidebar

Step 2: Click Private Integrations

Step 3: Click Create New Integration

Step 4: Name your integration (example: "Smartphone API" or whatever tool you're connecting)

Step 5: Click Next

Step 6: Select the Scopes (this controls what the integration can access)

Step 7: Click Create

Step 8: Copy your API Key and give it to the developer or paste it into the third-party tool

Understanding Scopes

Scopes control how much access you give to the integration. You can:

  • Select All - Gives full access to everything in your CRM

  • Choose Specific Scopes - Only give access to what's needed (example: view calendars, edit conversations, etc.)

Best Practice: Only give access to what the integration actually needs. If a tool only needs to read your calendar, don't give it access to edit contacts.

When You Might Need This

  • Connecting with your 3rd party lead generation sources

  • Connecting additional AI tools

  • Integrating with custom software a developer built for you

  • Linking to third-party services not already built into The REI Pulse CRM

  • Building custom automations with outside platforms

Pro Tips

  • Keep your API key private - Treat it like a password. Anyone with this key can access your data.

  • Name integrations clearly - Use names like "Zapier Integration" or "Smith Dev Team" so you remember what each one is for

  • Only select the scopes needed - Less access = more security

Troubleshooting

Integration not working? → Double-check that you copied the full API key with no extra spaces

Need to change access levels? → Delete the integration and create a new one with different scopes

Want to disconnect an integration? → Go to Settings > Private Integrations, find it in the list, and delete it
